love, big love or great love

(scene from a film i saw recently)
So the guy goes to the bar to drown his sorrows out after not finding the courage to tell the girl he loves how he feels about her. In all fairness, they both had something to say and he let her go first and she did, in where she excitedly revealed her plans to move out of town with another guy. She is completely unaware of this guy's feelings.

His sad face prompted the girl bartender to ask him what was wrong. He tells her how the love of his life will soon be gone and how he had lost her. She asks him, "Did you tell her how you feel?" He said he didn't because it felt pointless after what she had said. The bartender asks, "How much do you love her? Is it love, big love or great love?" He looked confused. (and so was i) and she says,

"if it's love, it lasts 2 months,
if it's big love, it lasts 2 years,
but if it's great love, it changes your life"
It was great love.

Well, Lorena, I really disagree! True love always changes you a little, your soul mostly. I don't think you can really love someone to then stop loving her/him after two monts! It maybe chemestry or some kind of attraction, but can it be love?

if we accept there are many degrees of love, then i do believe it is possible to get to know someone within 2 months and love the person & but that the love experienced might not be relationship material but great as friends. i'm open to that concept. none of the loves above use the word 'true love' but i guess the last one is implied
as that. thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

you know i couldn't think of the name at first but now i got it. believe it or not it was "win a date with tad hamilton" the film was ok, just happen to be on so i saw part of it and this dialogue really caught my interest. never saw it being broken down like this.

i have not seen batman begins. it didn't grab my attention as much. did you see the traveling pants one? if so, do you recommend it?

Well, if you put it like that, you are partially right. Partially because if a two months relationship turns into a great friendship, that kind of friend-to-friends love will surely continue after two months.
Thanks for visiting my blog, hope to see you again, here and there! :))

I agree 100% with the quote :-) There are so many levels of love, some that we haven't even experienced yet, and to some extent, that's what keeps us all going. Love, passion, desire... that's why we're all here when your strip away all the layers :-)

There are so many levels of love. And everyone has there own view and version. But I do agree that 'great love' changes your life. This is something I have experienced and will treasure for the rest of my life :-)

Yes, good point you made about the degrees. It's not the time necessarily that's the dependent variable, but it's important to consider what you actively put into love that you find in the beauty that causes you to believe in it. You do that before you complain about having an empty or overflowing heart.

good point bc, very well said. it all depends on what you bring into it and what they do as well.
